Fresno was invited to the White House in 2002 for the launch of the Citizen Corps program. The theme of the Fresno Citizenis "Ready, Resilient, and Resourceful." Their initiative is focused on sustaining and growing programs based on the 5 R's: respect, reciprocity, resourcefulness, resiliency, and results.
The Council's Faith Committee and Business/Industry/Government (BIG) working group hold regular meetings to spread the Corps Council's work in 2009-2010 message of preparedness through multiple networks and organizations. They have challenged their community to support the organizations that play vital roles in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery, and to identify and fill unmet security needs. Stakeholders come from many different areas in the community, including the City and County Offices of Emergency Services, the Fresno Police and Fire Departments, the Office of the Mayor, American Red Cross, United Way, HandsOn Central California, the County Office of Education, the Fresno County Public Health Department, the Air National Guard, and others.
