Council Description
The Miami-Dade County, Department of Emergency Management & Homeland Security serves as the host agency for the local Citizen Corps. Through this partnership, the associated Citizen Corps programs, such as the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program, Citizen's Crime Watch of Miami Dade County, Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS), and Medical Reserve Corps provide important training and skill development opportunities for all citizens, businesses, and community groups on emergency preparedness and public safety. General Council membership is comprised of representatives from community organizations, such as Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, Miami-Dade Police Department, University of Miami DEEP Center, County Commissioners Offices, American Muslims for Emergency Relief, Department of Health, 311 Answer Center, Crimestoppers of Miami-Dade, and many municipal partners in Miami-Dade County.
