  11. Vashon CERT training prepares volunteers to act as interim first responders in the event of a disaster. The VIF&R sponsored CERT course requires graduates to complete 32 hours of classroom training and practical exercise. Additionally, there is as a day-long disaster city drill to practice the challenges of command, control and communication as a team. Graduates are encourages to become register emergency workers and attend quarterly meetings where specific skills are reviewed and organizational work is accomplished.
