They have been certified in CERT since 2005 and have expanded the role of their CERT team in their neighborhood. The Franklin County CERT is made up of volunteers with a variety of professional backgrounds and expertise. The team formed to volunteer for the Franklin County EMA. The goals of the team are to respond to emergencies when called out by the EMA director. The team recently responded to a call to assist furnishing firefighters with food and drink at a large fire. Members are preparing to assist the director in the upcoming 24 hour EOC exercise at the end of October. The other goal is to volunteer in the comunity. The team volunteered last year for a warming center at local churches. Members helped create activity boxes with materials to engage visitors in various activities while visiting the center. The CERT also volunteered to help at the center with registrations and meals.
The CERT continues to grow in membership and dedication. We are taking many training opportunities so we can be better prepared to assist in setting up shelters and assiting the director when when needed. |
